Senate orders crackdown on bandits flaunting crime cash on TikTok

The South-West Youths Forum has sounded the alarm over what it describes as the rapid deterioration of security across the region, warning that the recent wave of kidnappings and attacks threatens the economic and social stability of Yorubaland.

In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by its President, Comrade Adeola Ogunlade, the forum said the region's reputation as a zone of relative peace is being eroded. "Our fathers built a region where people could farm, travel, and sleep in peace. That legacy is now under assault. Bandits, kidnappers, and armed herders are testing our resolve," the statement read.

The youth body called on the six South-West governors to convene an emergency security summit within the next two weeks. It also urged the governors to accelerate the recruitment, training, and equipping of the Western Nigeria Security Network, Amotekun, and to grant the corps the legal and operational capacity to defend communities.

The forum expressed solidarity with the victims of the Oriire school abduction in Oyo State and called for the immediate rescue of those still in captivity. It also warned against ethnic profiling and the scapegoating of any community.
