President Bola Tinubu has called for unity, consensus-building, and the deliberate inclusion of women and youth as the All Progressives Congress begins its nomination process for the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued by the Presidency on Thursday, President Tinubu acknowledged the heightened political temperature but warned that internal divisions could prove more damaging than any external opposition. He urged aspirants to prioritise the party's survival and electoral prospects over personal ambition.

"Primaries must not become battlefields of bitterness. Our party must be a model of democracy — inclusive, transparent, and respectful. I urge party leaders to give women and young people the space they deserve. They are not just the future; they are the present," the President said.

The statement comes as the APC grapples with multiple tensions at state and national levels, including disagreements over consensus arrangements and screening outcomes. The President's call is seen as a directive to party organs to manage the primaries with fairness.
