Senate orders crackdown on bandits flaunting crime cash on TikTok

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi have taken major steps toward the 2027 presidential election, separately submitting their nomination and expression of interest forms at the national secretariat of the African Democratic Congress in Abuja.

The submissions were made on Thursday by representatives of both aspirants. Atiku's forms were submitted by a delegation led by his campaign director-general, while Amaechi's were delivered by a group of associates from the South-South. Both men are expected to formally present themselves to the party's screening committee in the coming days.

A third aspirant, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, a former presidential candidate and investment banker, has also submitted his forms, setting the stage for a three-way contest for the ADC ticket.

ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark, who received the forms, pledged that the party would conduct free, fair, and transparent primaries. "The ADC is not a one-man show. We will give every aspirant a level playing field," Mark said.

The emergence of Atiku and Amaechi in the ADC follows their exit from the PDP and APC respectively, as Nigeria's political landscape undergoes significant realignment ahead of 2027. The ADC primary date is expected to be announced after the screening exercise.
