Senate orders crackdown on bandits flaunting crime cash on TikTok

Troops of the Joint Task Force, North-East, Operation HADIN KAI, successfully repelled a night attack by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists on the 120 Task Force Battalion in Goniri, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State, military sources confirmed on Sunday.

The attack, which occurred late on Saturday night, saw terrorists attempting to overrun the battalion’s perimeter using gun trucks and small arms. The troops, however, were on high alert and engaged the assailants with superior firepower, forcing them to retreat in disarray.

A military source told Prime Brief Media that the terrorists suffered heavy casualties, though no specific figure was provided. “The attack was swiftly repelled. The troops were ready, and the terrorists were effectively neutralised. We sustained no troop casualties, and the camp remains secure,” the source said.

Air support from the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI was deployed to provide surveillance and intercept the fleeing insurgents. The source said mopping-up operations were ongoing in the surrounding bush to track down any wounded or hiding fighters.

Goniri, a border community between Yobe and Borno states, has been a recurrent target for Boko Haram/ISWAP factions seeking to overrun military positions and loot weapons. The 120 Task Force Battalion has been a critical forward operating base in the counter-insurgency effort in the fringes of the Sambisa Forest.

The Defence Headquarters is expected to provide a formal situation report in its next operational briefing.
