Senate orders crackdown on bandits flaunting crime cash on TikTok

The Zamfara State Police Command has announced the reopening of the Bagega–Anka road after a specialised joint security team successfully cleared suspected Improvised Explosive Devices that had rendered the highway impassable.

The road was closed following a bomb explosion on Friday that killed six passengers and injured six others. Police spokesperson ASP Yazid Abubakar said a team comprising anti-bomb squad operatives, military engineers, and local vigilantes swept the entire stretch of the road and detonated several devices in controlled explosions.

"We are pleased to inform the public that the Bagega–Anka road has been cleared and is now safe for travel. Our operatives will continue to patrol the route to prevent further incidents," ASP Abubakar said.

The use of IEDs by bandit groups represents a dangerous escalation in the North-West, where criminal gangs have traditionally relied on small arms. Security analysts say the adoption of explosives points to growing links between bandits and jihadist networks operating in the North-East.

Motorists and residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious objects or activities to security agencies.
