Senate orders crackdown on bandits flaunting crime cash on TikTok

MINNA, NIGER STATE — Suspected bandits have killed three people and set houses ablaze in Pissa village, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, the Niger Police Command has confirmed.

The attack occurred at about 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2026. Police spokesperson SP Wasiu Abiodun told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the bandits invaded the village, shooting sporadically and torching homes before fleeing into a nearby forest.

“Three people were reportedly killed during the attack, and some houses were set on fire. The command has deployed tactical teams to the area to pursue the attackers and prevent further incidents,” Abiodun said.

This is the latest in a series of attacks on rural communities in Niger State, which shares borders with bandit‑prone areas in Kebbi and Kwara States. The Borgu axis has become a hotspot for cross‑border criminal activity, with bandits using the dense forests as hideouts.

Local residents have called for the establishment of a permanent military base in the area. “We cannot continue to live in fear. The government must do something urgently,” a community leader said.

The Niger State Government has not yet issued a statement. However, security agencies have launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspects.
