Flight Delays Leave Stranded Nigerians in South Africa Facing Hunger, Homelessness – Second Repatriation Batch Stalled

June 20, 2026 – Pretoria, South Africa

Hundreds of Nigerians awaiting evacuation from South Africa are facing hunger, homelessness and worsening hardship following delays in the second batch of repatriation flights arranged by the Federal Government.

The evacuees, who fled xenophobic attacks that have claimed at least 12 lives, have been left stranded in shelters without adequate food or accommodation. The Federal Government has blamed logistical issues for the delays, but the Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria has been criticised for its handling of the situation.

The stranded Nigerians have appealed to the government to expedite the repatriation process and provide urgent humanitarian assistance.
