Two persons, including an 82-year-old man and a 19-year-old youth, have been killed in separate attacks on communities in Irigwe Chiefdom of Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The victims were identified as Demi Duda, 82, and Emmanuel Chinge, 19. One other resident reportedly sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.
The Irigwe Youth Movement (IYM) disclosed the incidents in a statement issued on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Joseph Chudu Yonkpa.
According to the group, Emmanuel Chinge was killed on Sunday during an attack on Nche-tahu in Nkien-whie District of Irigwe Chiefdom.
The IYM further stated that another attack occurred in the early hours of Monday, between 1:00 a.m. and 2:00 a.m., in Kurudu, Jebbu Miango, where Demi Duda, aged 82, was killed. The group added that another resident sustained injuries during the attack.
The latest killings have heightened concerns over the persistent insecurity affecting communities in Bassa Local Government Area, where residents have repeatedly called for stronger security measures to protect lives and property.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had not issued an official statement regarding the attacks or announced any arrests in connection with the incidents.
The attacks come amid ongoing efforts by the Plateau State Government and security agencies to restore peace in communities affected by recurring violence.
