Senate orders crackdown on bandits flaunting crime cash on TikTok

The House of Representatives has summoned the National Security Adviser (NSA) and all service chiefs to explain the escalating insecurity and wave of abductions across Nigeria, following a motion of urgent public importance.

The motion, moved by a lawmaker from Kaduna State, expressed grave concern over the "perilous security situation" that has seen hundreds of citizens kidnapped, including schoolchildren, teachers, travellers, and farmers. The House noted that despite repeated assurances from security agencies, attacks and abductions have continued unabated.

The House resolved to invite the NSA and the service chiefs to appear before its Committee on National Security and Intelligence to present a "comprehensive and aggressive security strategy" for tackling the crisis. Lawmakers warned that failure to appear would trigger further parliamentary action.

"We cannot continue to lose citizens daily. The security chiefs must tell Nigerians what they are doing differently," the Speaker said.

The service chiefs are expected to appear next week. The House also called on the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency on security in the most affected states.
