Senate orders crackdown on bandits flaunting crime cash on TikTok

Suspected bandits have abducted about six residents in a late‑night attack on Rukpete Village in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, the police confirmed on Wednesday.

The gunmen invaded the village around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, shooting sporadically to scare residents before selecting their victims and whisking them away into a nearby forest. The victims include men and women of various ages.

This is the third major attack on Edu LGA in less than two weeks. Earlier, a husband and wife were abducted from Lafiagi town, and another raid left one resident dead and two women abducted from a Fulani settlement.

The Kwara State Police Command has deployed tactical teams to the area and launched a manhunt. "We are working to rescue the victims and arrest the perpetrators," a police spokesperson said.

Residents have expressed frustration. "We have reported these attacks repeatedly. The government knows the forest routes the bandits use. Why is nothing being done?" a community elder told Prime Brief Media.

The state government has not yet issued a statement.
