KATSINA-ALA, BENUE STATE – July 4, 2026
The Benue State Government, through the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (Benue-SEMA), has delivered emergency relief materials to internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Sai Community in Mbajir Council Ward of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area following the recent deadly attack on the community.
The intervention comes days after the attack, which claimed several lives, left others injured, and forced many residents to flee their homes in search of safety.
The relief exercise was coordinated by the Executive Secretary of Benue-SEMA, Sir James Aondoakaa Iorpuu, PhD.
According to the agency, the items distributed include:
✓ 300 bags of rice
✓ 150 bags of beans
✓ 200 cartons of noodles
✓ Cooking oil
✓ Maggi seasoning cubes
✓ Salt
The food items are intended to provide immediate support to families displaced by the violence as they await longer-term humanitarian assistance.
The relief materials were officially received by the Chairman of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, Hon. Justine Shaku, on behalf of the affected communities.
They were subsequently handed over to Rev. Fr. Isaka A. Jacob of St. Mary's Quasi Parish, who is expected to coordinate the distribution of the items to displaced persons taking refuge in the area.
Officials said the arrangement is aimed at ensuring that the relief materials reach the intended beneficiaries in an orderly and transparent manner.
The Benue State Government said it remains committed to supporting victims of violence across the state through humanitarian interventions and collaboration with local authorities and community leaders.
The latest relief effort forms part of the state's emergency response to communities affected by insecurity and displacement.
Authorities have also continued to call for enhanced security measures to prevent further attacks and enable displaced residents to return safely to their homes.
The attack on Sai Community is among several violent incidents reported recently in parts of Benue State, raising renewed concerns over security in rural communities.
