The Federal Government has officially handed over 116 completed housing units constructed under the National Housing Programme (NHP) to the Benue State Government, marking another milestone in the implementation of the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development's affordable housing initiative.
The handover ceremony, held at the Government House in Makurdi, brought together senior federal and state government officials, housing sector stakeholders, and traditional leaders, who described the project as a significant intervention aimed at addressing Nigeria's growing housing deficit.
The housing estate forms part of the National Housing Programme launched by the Federal Government to increase access to decent and affordable housing across the country while stimulating economic growth through investments in the construction sector.
Project designed to reduce Nigeria's housing deficit
Speaking during the handover ceremony, federal officials said the project reflects the Federal Government's commitment to improving the welfare of Nigerians by providing quality housing infrastructure in every state of the federation.
They explained that the National Housing Programme is not only intended to bridge the country's estimated housing deficit but also to stimulate local economies by creating jobs for artisans, engineers, contractors, suppliers of building materials, and other professionals within the construction value chain.
According to the officials, the Benue housing estate is among several projects completed nationwide under the programme, with additional estates at various stages of completion in other states.
