Pastor (Hon.) Jonathan Iorhemba has described the Makurdi–Yogbo road as a symbol of decades of neglect, urging government to fulfil longstanding promises to rehabilitate the critical route.

Former aspirant for the Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency, Pastor (Hon.) Jonathan Iorhemba, has called attention to the deteriorating condition of the Makurdi–Yogbo road, describing it as a lasting symbol of decades of unfulfilled promises and infrastructural neglect.
In a personal reflection titled "Makurdi–Yogbo Road, Decades of Promises, Years of Neglect," Iorhemba recounted childhood memories of watching heavy-duty trucks travel along the route, unaware at the time that the road's poor condition made it inaccessible to smaller vehicles.
The Makurdi–Yogbo road has, over time, become more than just a bad road; it has become a symbol of governmental neglect, broken promises, and the suffering of an entire people, he wrote.
According to Iorhemba, the road has repeatedly appeared in government budgets over the years, raising hopes among residents that rehabilitation would begin.
However, he said successive administrations have failed to deliver meaningful improvements, leaving communities isolated and limiting economic activities.
He argued that the poor state of the road has affected transportation, agriculture, access to healthcare, education, security, and overall development in the area.
Iorhemba noted that whenever discussions arise about poor infrastructure in Benue State, the Makurdi–Yogbo road is frequently cited as one of the most neglected roads.
Despite expressing disappointment over years of unmet expectations, he urged residents not to lose hope, saying the resilience of the Mbagwen people has been sustained by faith rather than political promises.
Quoting passages from the Bible, including Psalm 125:1 and Psalm 30:5, he encouraged residents to remain steadfast in the belief that the situation would eventually change.
The former federal constituency aspirant expressed optimism that the road would one day be rehabilitated, allowing farmers to transport produce more easily, businesses to thrive, and communities to enjoy improved access to essential services.
He concluded by expressing confidence that development would eventually reach the area and that the Makurdi–Yogbo road would become a symbol of restoration rather than neglect.
The Makurdi–Yogbo road has long featured in public discussions on infrastructure deficits in Benue State, with residents and community leaders repeatedly calling for its rehabilitation due to its importance to farming communities and local commerce.
