Operation WHIRL STROKE says troops have neutralized a suspected terrorist believed to be linked to the attack that claimed the life of former Benue SSG Prof. David Salifu in Ukum LGA.

Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) have neutralized a suspected terrorist believed to be among the armed gang responsible for the attack that led to the death of former Benue State Secretary to the Government (SSG), Prof. David Salifu.
According to the military, the operation followed credible intelligence on the movement of suspected kidnappers in Jotar village, Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State. Troops reportedly moved to the area, where they encountered the armed suspects in a gun battle.
The military said one of the suspected terrorists was killed during the exchange of fire, while others escaped into the surrounding area.
Security personnel recovered one AK-47 rifle and two empty magazines from the scene.
Authorities added that preliminary intelligence strongly suggests the neutralized suspect was among those involved in the recent attack on commuters along the Wukari–Makurdi route, which claimed the life of Prof. Salifu.

Prof. Salifu was attacked while travelling from Wukari in Taraba State to Makurdi, Benue State.
Reports indicated that gunmen intercepted his vehicle and allegedly attempted to force him onto a motorcycle before shooting him when he resisted.
He was initially taken to a hospital in Wukari for emergency treatment before being transferred to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) in Makurdi, where he later died despite medical efforts to save his life.
His death sparked widespread condemnation and renewed concerns over the security situation along major highways linking Benue and neighbouring states.
Operation WHIRL STROKE reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying operations against criminal groups operating across Benue and other parts of its area of responsibility.
The military said efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the gang and restore security in affected communities. Investigations into the incident continue.
