ASUU's chapter at Plateau State University, Bokkos, declares an indefinite strike after a 14-day ultimatum expired, demanding pension scheme implementation, wage arrears, and safer staff quarters.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Plateau State University, Bokkos chapter (ASUU-PLASU), has declared a total, comprehensive, and indefinite strike, citing the university administration's failure to satisfactorily address a six-point charter of demands.
The union announced the action on Wednesday following its Congress meeting, after a 14-day ultimatum issued to the administration on August 11 expired without resolution. In a statement signed by Chairperson Vincent D. Choji and Secretary Lomka Kopdiya, the union said Congress remained convinced that none of its six demands had been satisfactorily addressed.
The union's demands include the commencement of the Contributory Pension Scheme, full implementation of the 2025 Federal Government/ASUU agreement along with payment of arrears dating from January 1, 2026, and the payment of 22 months' arrears of the 25/35 percent wage award. Additional demands cover the provision of safe and secure staff quarters, construction of trenches around the university's perimeter fence, and an end to what the union described as intimidation of union leaders.
The statement noted that Congress proceeded with the strike following approval from ASUU's National Executive Council, and directed all members to suspend academic activities until further notice.
The strike adds ASUU-PLASU to a growing list of chapters taking industrial action over unresolved 2025 agreement issues, following a similar total strike declared earlier this month by the ASUU chapter at Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University in Benue State over comparable salary and allowance shortfalls, underscoring a broader pattern of unresolved federal-university funding disputes affecting institutions across the North Central region.
