Jos, Plateau State — August 27, 2026
Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have rescued two kidnapped persons in separate operations conducted across Bassa and Kanam Local Government Areas of Plateau State, according to the joint task force's Media Information Officer, Captain Chinonso Oteh.
In the first operation, troops of Sector 3 deployed in Bassa LGA launched a search-and-rescue mission at around 9 a.m. on Tuesday, August 25, following credible information about the abduction of a man identified as Ndubuisi Onuigbo. Troops subsequently located and rescued him.
In a separate operation the following day, troops of Sector 2 deployed at Kukawa Village in Kanam LGA encountered suspected terrorist elements along their patrol route during the early hours of Wednesday, August 26. Troops pursued the suspects, forcing them to abandon a kidnapped victim identified as Sambo Abdullahi in the process.
Oteh said both rescued victims were debriefed and reunited with their families following the operations. Major General Maxwell Dangana, GOC of 3 Division and Commander of Operation Enduring Peace, commended the troops involved for their professionalism and decisive action, and appealed to residents to remain calm and continue supporting security agencies with useful information to help combat criminal activity across the state.
The rescues come amid sustained security challenges across Plateau State, where security agencies have intensified patrols and operations in recent weeks to curb kidnapping and other criminal activity, particularly in the aftermath of the mass-casualty attacks recorded in Mangu LGA earlier this month.
