Ortom Denies Plot to Replace Benue PDP Governorship Candidate Aondoakaa

Former Benue Governor Samuel Ortom denies any plan to replace PDP governorship candidate Michael Aondoakaa, describing recent political moves as a broader development partnership.

Makurdi — August 10, 2026

Former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has denied reports of a plot to replace the Peoples Democratic Party's governorship candidate, Michael Aondoakaa, ahead of the next state election cycle.

Ortom said suggestions of an internal move against the candidate were inaccurate, explaining that some political stakeholders in the state regardless of party affiliation, are instead forming a strategic partnership aimed at advancing Benue's development.

He did not elaborate on the specific composition of the partnership or its immediate objectives.

The denial comes amid ongoing political repositioning within Benue's opposition ranks as the state continues to grapple with a worsening security crisis that has increasingly shaped the political conversation ahead of upcoming elections.
