Plateau Police suspend NAPEP tricycle operations in Jos-Bukuru and other towns for Maulud celebrations, warning officers against extortion as security is deployed to major roads and event venues.

The Plateau State Police Command has announced a temporary suspension of NAPEP tricycle operations in Jos-Bukuru and other major towns across the state on Tuesday, as part of security measures for the Maulud celebration.
Authorities say the restriction is intended to protect lives and property during the observance, with security personnel to be deployed around major roads, Maulud venues, and other crowded areas throughout the day.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ayodeji Faniyan, warned officers against using the suspension as a pretext to extort money from tricycle operators, stating that any officer found illegally collecting money from members of the public will face disciplinary action.
NAPEP operators arrested for violating the directive have been advised not to pay any officer demanding money, and to report such demands directly to the Police Command.
The command noted that the existing ban on commercial motorcycles (Okada) in Jos, Bukuru, and other areas covered by the Jos Master Plan remains unaffected and continues to apply alongside the new tricycle restriction.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant during the celebration and to report any suspicious activity, criminal conduct, or misconduct by security personnel to the Police Command.
