Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have arrested two suspected herders following an alleged attack on residents harvesting crops in Sabon Layi village, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred at around 1:30 p.m. on Monday, August 24, when troops responded to a distress call over an attack allegedly carried out by Fulani herders.
According to sources cited by security analyst Zagazola Makama, troops arriving at the scene found an elderly woman with injuries sustained in the attack, while other members of the group involved reportedly fled the area.
The injured woman was evacuated to Missionary Hospital in Sabon Layi for medical treatment. The two arrested suspects were subsequently handed over to the Keystone Mangu Divisional Police Command for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The arrest adds to the intensified security operations underway in Mangu LGA, which has been at the center of a wave of mass-casualty attacks this month, including the killings in Jwak Maitumbi and Binper communities.
