Governor Caleb Mutfwang has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on Barkin Ladi, Bokkos, and Mangu Local Government Areas, alongside a ban on motorcycle use across all three, following a weekend of renewed killings and fears of retaliatory violence.
The curfew, effective from Monday, September 21, restricts movement between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. until further notice. The state government said the measure was necessary to maintain public order and curb the growing security threat, while the motorcycle ban is aimed specifically at preventing attackers from using bikes to stage or escape attacks.
The decision followed a weekend of violence that killed at least nine people across Barkin Ladi and Riyom LGAs, a toll this outlet covered in detail, and prompted the evacuation of women and children from parts of Barkin Ladi as gunfire persisted around the Kantoma area.
Mutfwang urged residents of the affected LGAs to cooperate with security agencies and remain calm while the government works to restore order, assuring that the curfew would be reviewed once the security situation improves.
