Operation Whirl Stroke troops kill a suspected bandit and recover weapons after a motorcycle-borne pair opened fire during a routine patrol along the Gbise-Igyudu Road in Katsina-Ala LGA, Benue State.

Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have neutralised a suspected bandit and recovered weapons, ammunition, and other items following a firefight along the Gbise–Igyudu Road in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.
According to the task force's Acting Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, troops of Sector 1 were conducting a routine fighting patrol on September 2 when they encountered two suspected bandits riding a motorcycle along the Gbise–Igyudu axis. After positively identifying the armed suspects, troops engaged them, triggering a fierce exchange of gunfire.
One of the suspected bandits was neutralised in the encounter, while the second fled the scene after being overwhelmed by the troops' superior firepower. Soldiers subsequently conducted a thorough search and clearance operation around the area to ensure the fleeing suspect posed no immediate threat to nearby communities.
The operation adds to a string of recent OPWS successes in Katsina-Ala LGA, including the August 19 disruption of an alleged kidnappers' roadblock along the Jortar-Atume axis, which killed a suspected bandit known as "Cool Nigga" and led to the recovery of a motorcycle.
The task force reaffirmed that Operation Whirl Stroke would sustain aggressive patrols and intelligence-driven operations across its Joint Operations Area to dismantle criminal networks, while urging residents to continue providing timely, credible information on suspicious movements to security agencies.
