The African Democratic Congress (ADC) will hold its national convention today, Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at the Rainbow Event Centre in Garki Area 8, Abuja, despite earlier uncertainty over venue arrangements.

Former Anambra State governor and ADC chieftain, Peter Obi, confirmed the development during an interview on Arise News Channel on Monday night. "Definitely ADC convention will hold tomorrow (Tuesday), I assure you, in Abuja here," Obi said.

However, the party has alleged that the management of Rainbow Event Centre informed it that they had come under intense pressure from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to cancel the booking despite a valid agreement and full payment for the facility.

Obi raised concerns about what he described as growing restrictions on opposition politics in Nigeria. "If you are denied simple things like venue, it shows where the party is going to in a country where we have freedom of association enshrined in the constitution," he said.

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has denied any foul play, insisting that no formal application was submitted to his office and that access to public facilities is granted strictly based on due process. "We do not deny access," Wike said.

The ADC had initially applied to use Eagle Square and explored options at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium but encountered challenges in accessing the facilities.
