Senate orders crackdown on bandits flaunting crime cash on TikTok

 

MAKURDI, Nigeria – The Nigeria Police Force has ordered a strategic, coordinated offensive against banditry and violent crime across Benue, Nasarawa, and Plateau states, according to a statement issued April 10, 2026.

Assistant Inspector-General of Police Dankombo F. Morris, who oversees Zone 4, issued the directive following broader operational guidance from Inspector-General Olatunji Rilwan Disu. The initiative is driven by intelligence-led policing and enhanced situational awareness, authorities said.

Commissioners of Police in the three states have been directed to deploy specialized tactical units to secure high-risk areas, dismantle criminal networks, and maintain a visible security presence. The operation will also intensify surveillance, intelligence-based stop-and-search checks, and collaboration with other security agencies through joint operations.

The crackdown comes amid a surge in deadly attacks across the zone, including an April 9 assault on Mbwelle village in Plateau’s Bokkos LGA that killed eight family members and an April 7 raid in Benue’s Guma LGA that left four dead and sparked a reprisal killing of 20 cattle.
