A Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna has granted bail to former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, in the corruption case brought against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
El-Rufai was arraigned before the court on Tuesday on charges bordering on alleged abuse of office and financial misconduct during his eight-year tenure as governor of Kaduna State, which ended in 2023.
The ICPC had filed multiple charges against the former governor, accusing him of diverting public funds and awarding contracts to companies in which he had undisclosed interests. El-Rufai, however, pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Presiding Judge, Justice Hadiza Rabiu Shagari, granted the former governor bail in the sum of ₦100 million with two sureties in like sum. The sureties, according to the court, must be responsible citizens residing within the jurisdiction and must possess landed property within Kaduna metropolis.
The court also ordered El-Rufai to deposit his international passport with the court registrar and refrain from travelling outside the country without prior judicial approval.
The case has been adjourned to May 20, 2026, for the commencement of trial.
