Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has outlined his strategy for the upcoming 2026 Unity Cup, describing the tournament as a crucial opportunity to assess new players ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The defending champions will compete in the 4th edition of the Unity Cup, a four-nation tournament scheduled for May 26-30, 2026, at The Valley in London, England. Nigeria will face Zimbabwe in the semifinals, with Jamaica and India contesting the other tie.
"The Unity Cup provides a platform to assess new players. I will comb Europe and invite new players of Nigerian descent, alongside those who were previously called up but never got the chance to feature," Chelle told the Super Eagles media team.
Chelle also confirmed he will be watching domestic league games to identify top NPFL talent. "Top players from the Nigeria Premier Football League will also be considered as I will be watching a number of domestic league games from now until the end of the season," he added.
The coach further revealed plans for high-profile friendlies against Poland and Portugal in June, where he intends to field his first-team players to boost Nigeria's global ranking.
