Senate orders crackdown on bandits flaunting crime cash on TikTok

Tension is rising in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State following reports of a significant influx of armed Fulani herdsmen and their cattle into the Gaambe–Tiev axis, a development residents describe as deeply alarming and a potential precursor to violence.

According to local sources who spoke to Benue Info-pedia on Tuesday, the movement of armed men into the area has intensified in recent days, with groups of herders observed traversing communities while visibly carrying weapons. The sources, who requested anonymity for fear of reprisals, described the situation as "worrisome" and said many residents are now living in fear of an imminent attack.

"We have seen them moving in large numbers with their cattle. They are armed. This is how it starts. We are calling on the government and security agencies to act now before it is too late," one community leader told Prime Brief Media.

The Gaambe–Tiev axis, which straddles several agrarian communities in Logo LGA, has historically been a flashpoint for farmer-herder conflicts. The area's fertile lands and proximity to grazing routes have made it a recurring site of tension, with past incidents resulting in loss of lives, destruction of farmlands, and mass displacement of residents.

Logo Local Government Area shares boundaries with Ukum and Katsina-Ala LGAs, areas that have also witnessed significant security challenges in recent times, including attacks by armed groups and bandits. Residents fear that the arrival of armed herders could further destabilise an already fragile security environment.

As of the time of this report, neither the Benue State Police Command nor the state government has issued an official statement on the reported influx. A spokesperson for the police could not be reached for comment.

Community leaders are urging the state government to deploy security personnel to the affected areas and to engage with all parties to prevent a breakdown of law and order. They also called on the federal government to reactivate dormant security posts along the volatile border communities.
