Senate orders crackdown on bandits flaunting crime cash on TikTok

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), the influential Northern socio-political organisation, has denied a media report claiming a change in its leadership, describing the publication as detrimental to the peace and unity of the region.

In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by its Secretary General, Murtala Aliyu, the ACF said the report which appeared in Vanguard News on Saturday was “entirely false, mischievous, and clearly designed to sow confusion and disaffection within the forum and among the people of Northern Nigeria.” The report had suggested that Aliyu himself had been removed and replaced by a new chairman.

The ACF stated unequivocally that its leadership, headed by Chairman Emeritus Chief Audu Ogbeh and Board of Trustees Chairman Alhaji Yayale Ahmed, remains unchanged and that no such decision was taken at any meeting. “For the avoidance of doubt, the leadership structures of the ACF are intact. No meeting of the forum’s highest decision-making bodies was convened to effect any such change. The report is a fabrication,” Aliyu said.

The Secretary General called on media organisations to adhere to the highest standards of journalistic practice, warning that false reports about sensitive organisations like the ACF could inflame ethnic and regional sentiments. “We demand an immediate retraction and a published apology from Vanguard News. We reserve the right to take further steps to protect the integrity of the forum,” the statement added.

Efforts to obtain a comment from Vanguard News editors were not immediately successful.
