Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has issued a strong warning against what he described as "insidious and coordinated attempts" by opposition elements to undermine Nigeria’s democratic structures, urging citizens to remain steadfast in defending constitutional governance.

Governor Sani made the remarks in a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibraheem Musa, on Sunday in Kaduna. He said the country was facing a season of multiple challenges, insecurity, economic hardship, and political tension, that some forces were seeking to exploit for purposes he termed “antithetical to the nation’s unity and democratic survival.”

“We must be extremely vigilant. History teaches us that democracies do not collapse overnight; they are eroded gradually by those who refuse to play by the rules. Every Nigerian has a duty to resist manipulations that threaten the sanctity of our democratic institutions,” Sani said.

While the governor did not name specific individuals or parties, his statement is widely seen as a response to fresh political realignments and public criticism of the Tinubu administration. Sani, who is a close ally of the president, said opposition figures were “masking ambition as activism” and that Nigerians should not be deceived by those who present themselves as champions of the people while working to destabilize the system.

Political analysts note that the governor’s warning mirrors recent rhetoric from presidency sources, but Sani insisted his focus was strictly on the preservation of democratic norms and the well-being of ordinary citizens. “We must not allow our temporary difficulties to be exploited by elements that have no real commitment to democracy. Elections, not engineered chaos, determine leadership in a republic,” he added.
