ADC POSTPONES PRESIDENTIAL, GOVERNORSHIP SCREENINGS TO TODAY, MAY 18

Abuja, FCT – By Prime Brief Media

The African Democratic Congress has confirmed that its presidential and governorship screening exercise will take place today, Monday, May 18, 2026, following a postponement from the originally scheduled date over the weekend.

ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi said the shift was necessary to accommodate all aspirants and ensure a thorough, transparent, and orderly process. The screening will be held at the party's national secretariat in Abuja and will be conducted by a panel of senior party officials and legal experts.

Among the high-profile aspirants expected to appear before the screening committee are former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and businessman Mohammed Hayatu-Deen. The three are contesting for the party's presidential ticket.

In a related development, the ADC announced that screenings for National Assembly aspirants from insecurity-affected parts of Northern Nigeria, including the North-East and portions of the North-West, will also be conducted in Abuja rather than in their respective geopolitical zones. This decision, the party said, was taken to ensure the safety of aspirants and committee members.

The ADC's primaries are among the most closely watched in the opposition space, with the party positioning itself as a credible alternative to the APC and PDP.

Prime Brief Media is closely following political reactions and will provide updates as the situation evolves.
