Gusau, Zamfara State – By Prime Brief Media
Former Zamfara State Governor and Senator representing Zamfara West, Abdulaziz Yari, has made an explicit call to the Northern political establishment to support President Bola Tinubu's re-election in 2027, framing it as a matter of political reciprocity for the region's eight-year hold on the presidency under Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking at a political gathering in Gusau on Sunday, Yari argued that the South-West stood firmly with the North during Buhari's two terms and that honour demanded the North return the gesture. "The Yoruba supported us when we had our son in power. Now it is their turn. We must stand with President Tinubu in 2027. That is the honourable thing to do," Yari said.
The senator, a heavyweight in the APC and a former Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, called on religious leaders, traditional rulers, and political elites in the North to mobilise support for the President. He urged clerics to intensify prayers for peace and stability as the 2027 elections approach.
Yari's intervention is significant as the APC navigates internal tensions and a fragmented opposition. While the President retains strong support in parts of the North, some influential voices have questioned the region's continued backing, citing economic hardship and insecurity.
