Senate orders crackdown on bandits flaunting crime cash on TikTok

The African Democratic Congress presidential primary has descended into acrimony after two of the three aspirants rejected the results of the exercise, alleging widespread manipulation and disenfranchisement of their supporters.

The primary, conducted on Monday across 8,089 wards, was projected to produce a clear winner by Tuesday. However, the announcement of results was met with immediate rejection by the camps of former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi and businessman Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.

Amaechi, in a statement issued on Tuesday, described the figures being attributed to him as "concocted and completely at variance with the reports from our agents in the field." He alleged that his supporters were prevented from voting in several states, particularly in the North-East and South-South.

Hayatu-Deen, speaking to journalists, cited "systematic vote rigging and inflation of figures" and demanded the cancellation of the exercise. "What we witnessed was not an election. It was an allocation of votes," he said.

The ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark, appealed for calm and urged the aggrieved aspirants to channel their grievances through the party's internal dispute resolution mechanisms. The party has not yet formally declared a winner, though Atiku Abubakar is widely reported to have secured an overwhelming majority.
