DONALD DUKE CLINCHES PRP PRESIDENTIAL TICKET

Abuja, FCT – By Prime Brief Media

Former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke has won the presidential ticket of the People's Redemption Party, securing a decisive victory at the party's national convention on Tuesday.

Duke, who governed Cross River State from 1999 to 2007 and has remained active in national politics, polled 6,499 votes to defeat his closest rival, Kingsley Yakubu, who scored 2,699 votes. A third aspirant, Dr. Nnaoke Ufere, whose vote tally was not disclosed, rejected the results and alleged widespread manipulation.

In his acceptance speech, Duke said his campaign would focus on restructuring Nigeria, national unity, and the revival of the economy. "The PRP has a proud history as the party of the talakawa, the common people. We will return to those roots and offer Nigerians a genuine alternative," Duke said.

The PRP, founded by the late Mallam Aminu Kano in 1978, is one of Nigeria's oldest political parties. It has struggled to regain national prominence but retains a dedicated following in parts of the North and among progressives.

Duke becomes the latest former governor to secure a presidential ticket for the 2027 elections, joining a field that includes former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi.
