The Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun, has dismantled a kidnapping syndicate operating in the forest reserves of the state, arresting 12 suspects in a coordinated raid across three local government areas.
Amotekun Commander Chief Adetunji Adeleye confirmed the arrests at a press briefing in Akure on Friday. He said the operation followed weeks of intelligence gathering and surveillance. The suspects were found in possession of locally made firearms, machetes, charms, and mobile phones used for ransom negotiations.
"These criminals have been terrorising our communities, kidnapping farmers, travellers, and schoolchildren. We will not rest until Ondo State is completely safe. These arrests are just the beginning," Adeleye said.
The suspects are currently in Amotekun custody and will be handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for prosecution. The Commander urged residents to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to the nearest security post.
The Ondo State Government has commended the Amotekun operatives and reiterated its commitment to equipping the regional security outfit to tackle insecurity.
