Senate orders crackdown on bandits flaunting crime cash on TikTok

The immediate past Chief of Staff to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Mustapha Bala Dawaki, has dumped the ruling party for the Nigeria Democratic Congress, dealing a symbolic blow to the APC leadership.

Dawaki, a former member of the House of Representatives, announced his defection at a press conference in Abuja on Monday. His exit comes days after he lost his bid to secure the APC return ticket for his federal constituency, a loss he attributed to the manipulation of the primary process.

"I can no longer remain in a party where internal democracy has been murdered. The APC is no longer the party I joined. The NDC offers a genuine alternative, and I am proud to join Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and other progressives in the mission to rescue Nigeria," Dawaki said.

Kwankwaso, who received the defector at the NDC national secretariat, described Dawaki's move as a sign that the APC is haemorrhaging support even among its inner circle. "When the Chief of Staff to the APC Chairman leaves, you know the party is in trouble," Kwankwaso said.

Dawaki is the latest in a growing list of prominent politicians who have abandoned the APC after failing to secure return tickets at the just-concluded primaries.
