Former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Idiat Adebule, has been affirmed as the All Progressives Congress candidate for the Lagos West Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections, emerging unopposed at the party's primary on Saturday.
Adebule, who served as deputy governor under former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode from 2015 to 2019, was the sole aspirant for the ticket after other potential contenders stepped down in her favour. Delegates at the primary, held at the Agege Stadium, unanimously affirmed her candidacy through a voice vote.
In her acceptance speech, Adebule thanked the party leadership and delegates for their confidence and promised to provide quality representation for Lagos West, the largest senatorial district in the country by population. "This mandate is a call to service. I will work tirelessly to justify the trust placed in me and to bring the dividends of democracy to our people," she said.
Lagos State APC Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi described Adebule's emergence as a testament to the party's commitment to inclusivity and consensus-building. The Lagos West seat is currently held by Senator Tokunbo Abiru, who is completing his second term and is ineligible to seek re-election.
