Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin has been unanimously affirmed as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress for Kano North Senatorial District, paving the way for his return to the upper legislative chamber in the 2027 elections.
Jibrin, who chairs the Senate Committee on Appropriations and is one of the most influential lawmakers in the country, was the sole aspirant for the ticket. Delegates from across the senatorial district gathered in Bichi and endorsed his candidacy through a voice affirmation.

The Deputy Senate President is a close ally of President Bola Tinubu and has played a key role in advancing the administration's legislative agenda in the National Assembly. His re-election bid is expected to face a strong challenge from opposition parties in the general election, particularly the New Nigeria Peoples Party, which has a strong base in Kano.
