Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin has launched a vigorous defence of President Bola Tinubu's record in Northern Nigeria, calling on the region to back the President's re-election in 2027 and dismissing criticism of the administration's performance.
Speaking at a political gathering in Kano on Tuesday, Jibrin, who represents Kano North and was recently affirmed as the APC candidate for the district, said the President has demonstrated genuine commitment to the development of the North.
"President Tinubu means well for the North, and he is doing extremely well. Look at the appointments, the infrastructure projects, the security operations. The President has shown that he is a leader for all Nigerians. The North must stand with him in 2027," Jibrin said.
The Deputy Senate President's comments align with a broader push by senior APC figures from the North, including Senator Abdulaziz Yari, to consolidate northern support for the President ahead of the next elections. The moves are seen as a response to opposition efforts to erode the APC's base in the region by highlighting economic hardship and insecurity.
