Senate orders crackdown on bandits flaunting crime cash on TikTok

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has moved Big Brother Naija All Stars winner Ilebaye Odiniya and her two younger brothers into protective custody following a violent confrontation with their father that left multiple parties injured.

The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the development in a statement on Sunday. She said police operatives responded to a distress call from the Lugbe area on Saturday evening after reports of a domestic altercation that had escalated into physical violence.

“Upon arrival at the scene, operatives found Ilebaye Odiniya and her two younger brothers with visible injuries. They were immediately evacuated to Yabisam Hospital, Lugbe, for medical attention. The father also sustained injuries. All parties are now in a safe and secure environment,” SP Adeh said.

The police spokesperson explained that the siblings were taken into protective custody to ensure their safety while investigations continue. She declined to provide further details, citing the sensitivity of the matter and the need to protect the privacy of those involved.

The incident comes days after Ilebaye appeared in a viral livestream in the early hours of Saturday, 9 May, showing her in visible distress with facial swelling. The video triggered an outpouring of concern from fans and a social media campaign under the hashtag #ProtectIlebaye.

SP Adeh urged members of the public to avoid speculation and allow the police to conduct a thorough investigation. “Domestic incidents are complex, and we ask for patience and restraint. The safety of all parties is our immediate priority,” she said.

Ilebaye, who won the All Stars edition of the reality show in 2023, has a large fanbase, particularly among young Nigerians. The police assured the public that the command would provide updates as appropriate.
