ELEVEN KILLED AS BANDITS ATTACK KATSINA MARKET

Katsina, Katsina State – By Prime Brief Media

At least eleven people have been confirmed dead following a brazen daylight attack on Guga Grains Market in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State on Sunday, in the latest episode of violence to hit the North-West.

Eyewitnesses told Prime Brief Media that the attackers, numbering over a dozen and riding on motorcycles, stormed the bustling market at about 2:00 p.m., firing indiscriminately at traders and customers. "They came from the bush path and just started shooting. People ran in all directions. I counted eleven bodies, including a pregnant woman. It was terrible," said a trader who survived the attack.

The Katsina State Police Command confirmed the attack, and the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, said tactical units had been deployed to the area to restore calm and pursue the assailants. "We are working with other security agencies to track down the perpetrators. The situation is under control, and we urge residents to remain calm and vigilant," the statement read.

Katsina, like much of the North-West, has been at the epicentre of Nigeria's banditry crisis. Despite intensified military operations, armed groups continue to attack markets, villages, and highways, killing and abducting civilians. The attack on Guga Grains Market underscores the vulnerability of economic centres in rural areas and the difficulty of providing security across a vast, difficult-to-police terrain.

Prime Brief Media will continue to track security and rescue efforts across the state as this story develops.
