Former President Goodluck Jonathan has officially declared his candidacy for the 2027 presidential election, ending months of speculation and setting the stage for a historic contest that could see him attempt to reclaim the office he lost in 2015.

The former president, who conceded defeat to Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 in a gesture that was hailed globally, said he has reflected deeply on the state of the nation and believes he has the experience, temperament, and vision to restore Nigeria's fortunes.

Jonathan's declaration comes after a Federal High Court cleared him to contest, dismissing a suit challenging his eligibility. His entry into the race reshapes the presidential field, which now includes President Bola Tinubu of the APC, Peter Obi of the NDC, and Atiku Abubakar of the ADC.
