President Bola Tinubu has signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, approving a total expenditure of N68.32 trillion, the largest budget in Nigeria's history. The signing ceremony took place at the Presidential Villa on Friday, witnessed by the leadership of the National Assembly and members of the Federal Executive Council.

The budget, which was passed by the National Assembly earlier this month, allocates significant resources to defence and security, infrastructure, education, and health. The President said the budget is designed to consolidate the gains of his administration's economic reforms and to lay the foundation for sustainable growth.

"This budget is a statement of intent. We are investing in security to protect our people, in infrastructure to power our economy, and in education and health to develop our human capital. We will ensure that every naira appropriated is spent efficiently and transparently," President Tinubu said.

The N68.32 trillion expenditure represents an increase from the initial N58.47 trillion proposal submitted by the executive. The budget assumes a crude oil production benchmark of 2 million barrels per day and a price of $85 per barrel.

Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele said the government is committed to improving revenue collection and reducing the fiscal deficit.
