Peter Obi wins NDC presidential ticket by affirmation

Abuja, FCT – By Prime Brief Media

Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi has been formally affirmed as the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, securing the party's ticket for the 2027 general election through a unanimous voice vote at the party's national convention in Abuja on Friday.

The convention, attended by thousands of delegates from across the country, saw Obi endorsed without opposition after other aspirants stepped down in his favour. Obi's running mate is expected to be former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, who leads the Kwankwasiyya movement and brings a formidable northern base to the ticket.

In his acceptance speech, Obi said the NDC represents a break from the politics of the past. "We are building a movement, not just a party. Our mission is to rescue Nigeria from the grip of poverty, insecurity, and corruption. We will run an issue-based campaign and offer Nigerians a credible alternative," Obi said.

The NDC, founded by Senator Seriake Dickson, has positioned itself as a third-force platform capable of challenging the APC and PDP. The party has zoned its presidential ticket to the South for a single term of four years.

The 2027 presidential field now includes President Bola Tinubu of the APC, Atiku Abubakar of the ADC, Goodluck Jonathan of the PDP, and Peter Obi of the NDC.
