Senate orders crackdown on bandits flaunting crime cash on TikTok

The Kano State Police Command has announced the arrest of 248 suspects in connection with a wide range of criminal offences over a one-month period, as the command intensifies its crackdown on crime in the ancient commercial city.

Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Mamman, disclosed the figures at a press briefing on Thursday, stating that the arrests were made between 20 April and 20 May, 2026. The breakdown includes 18 armed robbery suspects, 5 kidnappers, 32 drug dealers, 12 motor vehicle thieves, and 149 suspects arrested for violent public disturbances.

"These operations were intelligence-led and community-supported. We also rescued three kidnapped victims and reunited them with their families. We are sending a clear message to criminals that Kano will not be a safe haven for them," CP Mamman said.

The command recovered an assortment of weapons, stolen vehicles, illicit drugs, and cash believed to be proceeds of crime. The Commissioner urged residents to continue to provide credible information and assured them of the police's commitment to protecting lives and property.
