Aspirants seeking to contest for seats in the House of Representatives on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress have declared that Peter Obi, should he become president in 2027 and fail to deliver on his campaign promises, would be removed from office by an unforgiving Nigerian electorate.

The aspirants, who held a press conference in Abuja on Friday, also threw their weight behind the possibility of an Obi-Kwankwaso presidential ticket, describing the combination as "a winning formula" that could unite the North and South and present a formidable challenge to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

"We are supporting Peter Obi because we believe in his capacity to lead. But we are not blind loyalists. If he is elected and fails to perform, Nigerians will remove him. That is the beauty of democracy. Accountability does not end on election day; it begins," the convener of the aspirants' forum, Aminu Hassan, told journalists.

The aspirants' comments are notable for their frank acknowledgement of the electorate's growing impatience with unfulfilled promises. They also reflect a broader push within the NDC to present the party as a democratic and accountable alternative, distinct from the established political culture of impunity.

On the proposed Obi-Kwankwaso ticket, the aspirants argued that Kwankwaso's strong political base in Kano and the wider North-West, combined with Obi's appeal among youth, urban voters, and the South-East and South-South, would create an electoral coalition that would be difficult to beat. Neither Obi nor Kwankwaso has publicly endorsed the ticket proposal.

The NDC, founded by Senator Seriake Dickson, has rapidly grown in national prominence, attracting 19 National Assembly members and positioning itself as a credible third force ahead of the 2027 elections.
