A political aide to the Deputy Governor of Niger State has been stabbed to death in his home in the Tunga area of Minna, in a shocking crime that has raised serious questions about security in the state capital.
The incident occurred on 21 May, according to police sources. The victim, whose identity has not been officially released pending family notification, was attacked inside his residence. The brutality of the killing and the fact that the house is situated directly opposite a police station have left residents stunned and angry.
"How can someone be killed right in front of a police station? Are we safe anywhere?" a resident of the area told Prime Brief Media.
The Niger State Police Command confirmed the incident and said an investigation has been launched. "We are following credible leads. We assure the public that the perpetrators will be brought to justice," the command's spokesperson said.
The killing is the latest in a series of violent incidents in Minna and has prompted calls for enhanced police patrols and intelligence gathering.
