OYO GOVERNMENT SUSPENDS ALL SCHOOL EXCURSIONS OVER SECURITY FEARS

Ibadan, Oyo State – By Prime Brief Media

The Oyo State Government has taken the extraordinary step of suspending all off-campus student activities, including excursions, field trips, and inter-school sports competitions, in response to the worsening security situation following the abduction of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.

The directive, contained in a circular issued by the Ministry of Education on Friday and signed by the Commissioner for Education, instructed all public and private schools to comply immediately. "No student shall be taken outside school premises for any activity until further notice. The safety of our children is paramount," the circular stated.

The suspension affects hundreds of schools across the state and comes as security agencies continue the search for over 40 students and staff still in captivity. The attack on three schools in Oriire, which saw an assistant headmaster beheaded, has traumatised communities and raised urgent questions about the security of educational institutions.

Parents and teachers have welcomed the suspension as a necessary precaution, while calling on the government to accelerate the rescue of the abductees and to deploy permanent security measures at schools.

Prime Brief Media will continue to track security and rescue efforts across the state as this story develops.
