Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State – By Prime Brief Media
Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has suspended his Special Assistant on Political Matters, Dayo Ibijowo, with immediate effect following his arrest by security operatives over alleged involvement in political thuggery.
The suspension was announced in a statement by the Governor's Chief Press Secretary on Friday. Governor Oyebanji directed security agencies to carry out a thorough and transparent investigation into the allegations and warned that no official serving in his administration is above the law.
"This administration has zero tolerance for violence, thuggery, or any conduct that threatens public peace and the integrity of our democratic process. Any appointee found wanting will face the full consequences of the law," the statement read.
Ibijowo was reportedly arrested earlier this week in connection with a violent clash between political groups in Ado-Ekiti. The incident, which left several people injured, has raised concerns about the rising temperature of political activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
Civil society groups have welcomed the governor's swift action and urged other state executives to emulate the example.
