Former Anambra State Governor and presidential aspirant Peter Obi has undergone screening by the Nigeria Democratic Congress, describing the process as thorough and focused on the critical questions of constitutional eligibility, governance philosophy, and national vision.
Speaking briefly to journalists after the screening at the party's national secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday, Obi said the panel, composed of senior party officials and legal experts, concentrated on the capacity of aspirants to address Nigeria's pressing challenges.
"The screening was rigorous but fair. The panel was interested in our constitutional qualification, our record of governance, our plans for the economy, security, education, and how we intend to unite this great nation. I am satisfied with the process," Obi said.
The NDC, which has zoned its presidential ticket to the South, has attracted several high-profile aspirants and is positioning itself as a credible third-force platform ahead of the 2027 elections. Obi's partnership with former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso under the NDC banner has significantly boosted the party's national profile.
The NDC's screening exercise, which began on 19 May and runs until 26 May, is expected to clear the way for the party's national convention where the presidential candidate will be formally nominated.
