Senate orders crackdown on bandits flaunting crime cash on TikTok

Former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress and is expected to formally announce his membership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress in the coming days.

Omo-Agege, who represented Delta Central Senatorial District and served as Deputy Senate President from 2019 to 2023, submitted his resignation letter to his ward chairman in Ughelli North Local Government Area on 22 May. Sources close to the senator confirmed the development on Wednesday, saying his move to the NDC has been finalised.

The defection of Omo-Agege, a prominent political figure in the South-South, represents a significant gain for the NDC, which has been building its national profile under the leadership of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso. It is also a blow to the APC in Delta State, where the party has been struggling to maintain relevance against the PDP.

"Senator Omo-Agege is a big catch for us. His political weight, his network, and his commitment to good governance will strengthen the NDC," an NDC chieftain told Prime Brief Media.

Omo-Agege's defection follows a series of high-profile exits from the APC, including the Chief of Staff to the APC National Chairman and Senator Shehu Umar of Bauchi South.
