Terror has gripped communities in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State after armed men attacked three schools in a coordinated early-morning raid, killing a teacher and seizing an unspecified number of pupils, teachers, and a school principal.

The assaults, which occurred around 8:30 a.m. on Friday, targeted Baptist Nursery and Primary School Yawota, Community Grammar School Esiele, and L.A. Primary School. Witnesses told Prime Brief Media that the gunmen, numbering about fifteen and riding on motorcycles, arrived simultaneously at the schools and fired sporadically into the air before grabbing their victims.

An assistant headmaster at one of the schools was shot dead while attempting to protect pupils. His identity is being withheld pending formal notification of his family. The assailants also seized the principal of Community Grammar School Esiele and fled in his official vehicle, together with abducted students and staff members whose number remains unconfirmed.

The Oyo State Police Command confirmed the attacks and said a massive manhunt involving tactical units, local hunters, and vigilantes has been launched to rescue the abductees. Police Public Relations Officer SP Abiodun Ojelabi appealed to residents to provide any information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.

The attack on schools, a tactic previously concentrated in the North-West and North-Central zones, signals a worrying geographic expansion. Security analysts say armed groups may be testing the response capacity of South-West states, which have been comparatively insulated from large-scale abductions.

Prime Brief Media will continue to track security and rescue efforts across the state as this story develops.
